On the appointment of Liz Truss MP as Leader of the Conservative Party, ISBA has issued the following statement.
As our new Prime Minister takes office, what our members need now is the policy stability and political leadership that enables advertisers to grow and invest.
The past ten years have been a period of unprecedented uncertainty. Advertising has been weathering the storm, but there are serious headwinds.
To tackle them and to allow our industry – an engine of the economy – to thrive, we have clear asks of the new PM and her Government. Make policy based on evidence, not headlines. Drop ideas which will hinder our industry not help it, like the sale of Channel 4, to which advertisers are overwhelmingly opposed. And restore clarity and direction to important legislation, like the Online Safety Bill and digital competition reform.
Brand advertisers have always sought to work with government to address the big social and economic issues of our time. They stand ready to do so again. We hope that the Truss Administration will open the door to constructive partnership with industry, so that together we can meaningfully address the challenges that face us.
