ISBA Legal webinar: Get ready for the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Act

In a departure from our usual format, this will be a Q&A session, moderated by Brinsley Dresden, with the audience invited to put their questions to Jen Dinmore. Delegates will benefit from Jen’s insights gained as Director of Consumer Protection at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

•    We are fast approaching the April 2025 implementation date of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 which will bring significant changes to the way consumer law is enforced in the UK.
•    As part of this, the CMA is becoming a hugely powerful regulator of consumer laws - it will be able to initiate and conduct its own investigations, decide itself whether a company has breached consumer laws (without involving the courts) and unilaterally issue financial penalties of up to 10% of a company’s annual global turnover.
•    What are the CMA’s enforcement priorities? What investigatory powers does it have in relation to consumer law enforcement and how will they be used in practice?

Who is it aimed at:

This session is aimed at anyone working with responsibility for advertising and creative production, and influencer marketing.  This is also aimed at anyone working with legal responsibilities.

What will you gain by attending:

•    An understanding of how the CMA is becoming a hugely powerful regulator of consumer laws - able to initiate and conduct its own investigations, decide itself whether a company has breached consumer laws (without involving the courts) and unilaterally issue financial penalties of up to 10% of a company’s annual global turnover.
